Tinkers: Metal Mixing
Alloys are made when compatible molten materials share the same Smeltery tank. The reaction is automatic: once the recipe's ratio is present, the liquids combine.
Reliable alloying workflow
- Check JEI for the pack's exact liquid amounts. Modpacks can add, remove, or rebalance alloys.
- Empty unrelated liquids or move them away from the ingredients you intend to combine.
- Melt the ingredient with the larger ratio first, then add the smaller ingredient.
- Watch the liquid list in the Smeltery Controller. Click a liquid to move it to the bottom and make it the active drain material.
- Cast the finished alloy into ingots, blocks, or tool-part casts.

Automatic mixing
Compatible liquids react without a confirmation button. Do not leave recipe partners together unless you want the alloy. Use separate Smelteries for valuable pure metals when possible.
Example: one batch of Bronze
Melt three Copper ingots and one Tin ingot. When all four ingots are liquid and in the same tank, they convert into four ingots of Molten Bronze. Select Bronze in the controller, then pour it into an Ingot Cast or Casting Basin.
Keep the ratios clean
Multiples work too: 6 Copper + 2 Tin yields 8 Bronze. Partial ingredients can leave awkward liquid amounts, so batch in whole recipe sets.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing mixes: confirm both materials are fully molten and that this pack has the alloy enabled.
- The wrong liquid pours: click the desired liquid in the Controller to move it to the drain position.
- An ingredient disappeared: it probably reacted with another compatible liquid already in the tank.
- The output amount differs: trust JEI; pack scripts override default mod values.
