Tinkers: Smeltery & Expanding
A Smeltery is a hollow, lava-powered multiblock for melting metals, doubling many ore outputs, alloying liquids, and casting tool parts.
Parts to gather
For a compact starter build, prepare Seared Bricks and craft:
- 1 Smeltery Controller
- 1 Seared Tank or Seared Window for lava
- 1 Seared Drain
- 1 Seared Faucet
- 1 Casting Table and/or Casting Basin
- Enough Seared Bricks, Seared Glass, or Seared Windows for the floor and walls
Build a 3×3 interior Smeltery
- Make a solid 5×5 Seared floor. The usable interior will be 3×3.
- Build a one-block-high Seared wall around the edge, leaving the 3×3 center hollow.
- Replace wall blocks with the Controller, Tank, and Drain. They must be part of the outer wall.
- Put a Faucet on the outside face of the Drain.
- Place a Casting Table or Basin beneath the Faucet.
- Fill the Tank with lava. When valid, the Controller lights up.
Do not fill the interior with blocks. The Smeltery is a hollow tank; only the bottom and outside walls are Seared blocks.
Using it
Right-click the Controller to add ores, ingots, or other meltable items. When a material is molten, select it in the liquid list and pour it through the Drain. Tables make ingots and parts; Basins make full blocks.
Expanding safely
- Wider: rebuild the entire outer wall and floor while keeping a rectangular hollow interior.
- Taller: add another complete ring of valid Seared wall blocks. Each layer increases capacity.
- More outputs: add extra Drains, Faucets, Tables, and Basins to the walls.
- More fuel storage: add additional Seared Tanks or Windows connected to the structure.
Break and rebuild only after draining rare liquids. A malformed wall switches the Controller off, but the structure becomes valid again once the shell is repaired.
First casts
Pour Aluminum Brass or Gold around a completed stone tool part on a Casting Table to create a reusable cast. Then pour your chosen molten metal into that cast.
